Space Weather Tabletop Exercise

May 8-9, 2024

Hosted by The Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory

Laurel, Maryland

You are personally invited to a unique opportunity to join our Nation’s senior leaders by participating in a Space Weather Tabletop Exercise (SWx TTX). The two-day, invitation-only, exercise will be held on May 8th and 9th, 2024 and will include senior officials from key federal, state and local government partners. The exercise will be based on a simulated space weather scenario with significant impacts on the U.S. infrastructure and society.

Participants will be able to learn about space weather and its effects, explore related decision making processes, and will be provided opportunities to network and establish paths for discussing space weather anomalies in a collaborative environment. This SWx TTX is sponsored by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), the National Science Foundation (NSF), the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), and is designed and coordinated by the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (APL).

The SWx TTX will be hosted at two different venues:

  • Federal senior officials are invited to attend in person at APL in Laurel, Maryland.
  • Senior local, state and regional government officials from FEMA Region 8 (R8) are invited to attend in person at the Longs Peak Conference Room at the Denver Federal Center in Denver, Colorado.
  • Both locations will offer a virtual participation option as needed. However, senior leaders are encouraged to attend in person.

A preliminary Readahead document, found here, contains information regarding the SWx TTX background, scenario and links for additional information. Further background material, a detailed agenda and logistics information will be sent to participants by April 15, 2024.

Register here for the Space Weather Tabletop Exercise. Please RSVP by March 8th, 2024. If you would like additional information, please contact SpaceWeatherTTX@jhuapl.edu.
